that's weird...
why?

On god. that's weird as hell. No one really knows why this letter was sent or what Welsh's intentions are.

 

According to Adrienne Lu's article in the chronicle (fantastic article, please give it a read),

 

"Republican politicians have proposed banning colleges’ efforts related to diversity. Critics argue that such offices and programs are a waste of taxpayer dollars and violate academic freedom."
